Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph (TVK) Vijay meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi as part of his first official visit to the national capital. The meeting comes after Vijay assumes office earlier this month, and sources describe it as his maiden trip to the Centre since taking charge.
According to accounts from both outlets, Vijay raises several issues affecting Tamil Nadu. One key matter is the Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery river. Vijay expresses concern over Karnataka’s announcement of a ground-breaking ceremony and says the move conflicts with the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) and a Supreme Court verdict. Vijay requests the Prime Minister to issue a clear directive on the matter.
The Chief Minister also discusses arrests involving Tamil Nadu fishermen, urging the Centre to take steps to ensure the immediate release of the fishermen and their vessels.
In addition, Vijay requests that the Tamil invocation song, “Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu,” be allowed to be sung at the start of government events. Separate reporting also notes that the CM is likely to meet other senior leaders in the coming days, including the Vice President and Union Home Minister, as well as senior Congress leaders.
