A court in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, sentences Ravita and her lover Amardeep to death for the murder of Ravita’s husband, Amit Kashyap. Prosecutors say the couple strangled him at their home and then staged a snakebite by placing a snake near his body to mislead investigators.

Multiple outlets report that a post-mortem examination shows the man died from strangulation, not a snakebite. The court hears the accused through video conferencing from jail and, before sentencing, takes emotional appeals from both convicts—Ravita asks that her three children be cared for, while Amardeep says his elderly parents need support. Police investigations, including call detail records showing frequent contact between the two on the day of the killing, are cited as part of the case.

Sources also note that the verdict comes more than a year after the April 2025 killing and follows other recent death-penalty rulings by the same court in separate high-profile cases.
