Alliance Arts cancels the planned public demo for its upcoming horror drinking game, “Drunken Goddess Reflux,” citing concerns that the demo could be rapidly copied and released before the game launches. In a message to players, the studio says it is “sincerely” apologetic for the short notice and explains that it worries the demo’s presentation and gameplay could be imitated using generative AI or other tools.
Instead of a public demo, the developer will run closed online sessions hosted by Alliance Arts for a limited number of players. Sources report the studio will distribute demo keys and use its Discord to gather feedback, and that it is also concerned it cannot adequately manage posting and streaming restrictions. The outlets place the decision in a wider context of increasing copycat games on Steam and faster development workflows enabled by generative AI, including examples of similar games appearing soon after earlier launches.
“Drunken Goddess Reflux” is an anime-themed Russian roulette-style game that mixes alcohol-themed mechanics with horror elements. It is set to launch on PC on December 8, with Steam Next Fest approaching around the time the demo was originally intended to be released.
