The NBA tells its sportsbook partners to remove specific bet types and some parlays this season, according to multiple reports citing a Friday memo. The restrictions target wagers that regulators and sportsbooks have associated with recent gambling-related scandals.

Outlets report the NBA’s guidance focuses on “low-likelihood, high-payout” markets and certain single-event, player-related wagers. Reported examples include bets on which player records the first stat in a game, the result of the opening tip, and under bets tied to players who are not expected to play many minutes. The memo also addresses parlays involving combinations of these player-stat markets, which sportsbooks will be required to stop offering.

The reports also note the NBA is trying to reduce problematic betting activity without pushing it into illegal channels. In addition, the league instructs teams that players, coaches, and training staff must attend in-person training on the NBA’s sports betting rules starting this season.
