India’s shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal says all 24 Indian seafarers are safe after two separate attacks on commercial vessels in recent days.

One incident occurs in the Strait of Hormuz, where a crude oil tanker carrying 15 Indian seafarers is reported to have been struck by a projectile on October 16. A separate incident involves Romania, where a chemical tanker with 9 Indian seafarers is reported to have been hit by a drone, according to multiple outlets. In both cases, the seafarers are reported unharmed. India is also reported to have condemned the attacks on commercial shipping, citing concerns for the safety of seafarers and the wider security of maritime routes.

Outlets further report that the government is closely monitoring both incidents and coordinating with the ship management companies involved, while focusing on confirmation of crew safety and follow-up measures.
