Israel orders residents of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre to evacuate as the Israeli military carries out strikes in the area amid escalating conflict with Hezbollah. According to multiple reports, the Israeli military issues an evacuation warning to Tyre’s population and says it will act forcefully against the armed group in coming operations.
Several outlets report that Israel has declared large parts of southern Lebanon, including the area around Tyre, as “combat zones.” One report says the designation covers areas south of the Zahrani River, roughly 40 km from the border. The evacuation warning precedes new Israeli strikes described as targeting Hezbollah infrastructure around Tyre.
BBC News and France 24 add that the strikes come alongside an additional wave of air activity across parts of south and east Lebanon. France 24 also notes that the warning is issued during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. Collectively, the sources present the evacuation order and “combat zone” designation as part of the lead-up to strikes aimed at Hezbollah-linked positions in and around Tyre.
