A four-year-old poodle-husky mix named LouLou goes missing after an avalanche in Chugach State Park injures two mountaineers and sweeps them downhill. Rescuers search for more than 50 hours before locating the dog alive in the snowy wilderness. Volunteers eventually spot LouLou from a helicopter and bring her out of the area with only minor injuries.
Multiple outlets report that an Apple AirTag attached to LouLou provides an important lead, but its initial location estimate is off by several hundred metres, slowing the search. The owner, Lauren Padawer, learns of the accident while overseas and helps coordinate a large volunteer effort through social media, involving hikers, helicopter pilots, drones, and other support. One outlet adds that a rescue video shows helicopter crew calling the dog’s name and guiding her to safety. After discovery, LouLou is taken for evaluation and is reported to have a lost canine tooth and a fractured toe, while otherwise appearing healthy.
