A 34-year-old man, Nathan Owens, is accused of murdering his 19-year-old stepdaughter, Carla Georgescu, in February. Prosecutors say he drove more than 100 miles to her student accommodation in Preston, where he strangled her with a leather belt, after what they describe as a developing sexual obsession with her.
At Preston Crown Court, jurors hear Owens was recorded arriving and leaving the premises in the early hours of February 4. The prosecution says he had kept extensive material related to Carla, including images and recordings, and used a life-sized effigy dressed in her nightwear as part of explicit sexual conduct. It is also alleged that he made deepfake content using her images. Prosecutors add that Carla was due to fly to Romania the next day and was planning to meet a new boyfriend, which they say may have marked the timing of the attack.
Owens denies murder, strangulation and grievous bodily harm. The court heard Carla’s family reported her missing after she did not respond to messages and that police initially considered suicide before finding signs of assault. The trial continues.
