LG Energy Solution says its U.S. subsidiary, LG Energy Solution Vertech, has signed a supply agreement with DTE Energy to provide battery energy storage systems made in Michigan. The deal is reported as $1.8 billion in one account, while another describes DTE’s related investment as $1.6 billion. The agreement covers eight battery storage projects across Michigan and calls for a total of 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of storage capacity delivered over the next two years.
The systems are intended to support grid reliability and help integrate clean energy. Under the projects, the batteries store electricity during periods of excess generation and release power during peak demand to reduce strain on the grid and improve operational efficiency. The sources also say the projects are designed to meet domestic content requirements.
LG Energy Solution Vertech frames Michigan manufacturing as a key part of its operations, and DTE positions the agreement as supporting its clean energy goals and broader economic activity in the state. Across the accounts, all describe eight Michigan-based projects totaling 6GWh over a two-year delivery period.
