Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, held in judicial custody in Tihar Jail, are still awaiting a decision on their release as their party alleges deliberate delays in the bail process. The CJP says the hearing scheduled for around noon is delayed for hours and that surety documents submitted for the two leaders were rejected on unclear grounds.
Multiple outlets report that, during proceedings on October 18 at Mandir Marg police station, a Special Executive Magistrate said he received a death threat linked to the bail hearing. Delhi Police registered a non-cognisable report (NCR) against unidentified persons after the magistrate’s complaint, while some media describe the action more broadly as an FIR. Police deny that any delay was intentional, saying procedural checks on sureties were necessary and that the alleged threat required attention.
The underlying detention relates to Das and Ranka’s alleged violation of conditions of an earlier peace bond, including charges tied to an incident at Jantar Mantar. The threat allegation is under investigation, while the question of their release remains unresolved in the latest reports.
