Private equity firm Advaya Capital completes a roughly $70 million cash purchase of Comscore’s box office analytics division, Comscore Movies. Following the acquisition, the business is renamed Rentrak, a former brand used by the box-office data company. The reports describe Comscore Movies as operating with transaction-level data gathered from approximately 34,000 theaters and more than 200,000 screens across 70-plus countries.
Both outlets also note that Chris Aronson, previously associated with studio distribution and involved in the transaction process, joins the company’s board as part of the transition. The change effectively returns Rentrak as an operating identity under the new ownership structure.
The deal positions Advaya to continue providing box-office analytics and related data services using the existing Comscore Movies network and datasets, while aligning the company’s branding again with the Rentrak name. The transaction details described are limited to the purchase price, the division acquired, the scope of the data operations, and Aronson’s board role.
