Walmart Inc. is selling US dollar bonds and is also weighing a potential debut offering in Canada, according to multiple reports. The company seeks to raise at least US$2.5 billion through one or more series of notes in the US market, while separate plans for a Canadian bond sale remain under consideration.

Quartz and Bloomberg report that a preliminary SEC filing outlines four series of notes for the US offering. Bloomberg adds that Walmart is tapping the US debt market for a second time this year as it supports a spending push and looks to diversify its funding sources. The Financial Post reports that Walmart’s Canadian bond sales could total about US$6 billion, framing the move as currency and investor diversification for US borrowers, though it characterizes the Canadian size as a target rather than a final decision.
