Apple’s HomePod Software 27.2 adds the “Sound Glow” lighting feature to additional HomePod models. Sound Glow, which pulses colors on the top of a HomePod in sync with the currently playing audio, was introduced with HomePod mini 2 but is now available on select other speakers. Users can enable it through HomePod settings after updating to Software 27.2.

MacRumors and 9to5Mac both report that Sound Glow works on HomePod mini (original mini) and HomePod (2nd-generation). They also note it is controlled from HomePod settings and can be toggled via Apple TV controls when the speakers are paired. AppleInsider adds that the same software release candidates also include related additions, including surround sound support when pairing the latest Apple TV 4K with HomePods, and that surround sound options can vary by which HomePod models are used.

Across outlets, there is agreement that the feature’s availability is limited by model, with the original HomePod not receiving Sound Glow.
