Rescuers in central Laos are appealing for more oxygen to continue the extraction of seven divers trapped in a cave in Xaisomboun province. The divers, all Lao nationals, entered the cave last week in search of gold. Heavy rain is reported to have triggered a landslide that blocks their exit, leaving them trapped underground.
Multiple outlets report that five of the seven have been located alive, but the group has not yet been fully rescued. A Thai volunteer group involved in the effort says additional oxygen tanks are needed to safely sustain the trapped divers during the ongoing extraction process.
Reporting also indicates that rescue operations are still under way and depend on ensuring sufficient oxygen supply to complete the operation. Authorities and volunteers continue coordinating efforts, with the immediate focus on increasing the oxygen available at the site as rescuers work to reach and remove the remaining trapped divers.
