India and China hold “constructive” and “forward-looking” discussions on the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, focusing on border peace and progress in normalising relations. The talks take place through the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) in Beijing. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) says the discussions are constructive and forward looking and that both sides review the border situation in the India-China border areas.
According to the MEA and other reports, India and China express satisfaction with the progress made in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas. This approach is described as enabling advancement toward broader normalisation after a prolonged period of heightened tensions following the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020 and a subsequent military face-off that lasted for more than four years.
The sides also agree to take steps for future engagement, including making “substantive preparation” for the next meeting of their Special Representatives (SR), which is expected to be held in China. The meetings follow efforts over the past year to rebuild bilateral ties.
