India and Canada launch a Canada-India Trade and Investment Forum to bring together business leaders from both countries and create new commercial partnerships. The forum is announced in a joint statement issued after a three-day official visit by India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal (May 25–27). Goyal also holds meetings with Canadian government counterparts, including a bilateral meeting with Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, and engages with business leaders during the trip.
The two governments agree to enhance connectivity between India and Canada as a way to expand trade and investment. The areas mentioned include people-to-people ties, business mobility, and direct commercial linkages. The visit includes outreach to academia, innovation centers, government leaders, business councils and institutional investors across Toronto and Ottawa. Discussions cover cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cleantech, agritech, deep tech, and other sectors highlighted during meetings with Ontario’s leadership and business groups.
One report also cites broader trade aims, saying the sides discuss ongoing negotiations for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and both seek to grow bilateral trade from about USD 8.5 billion to USD 50 billion by 2030.
