Filmmaker Rian Johnson has launched Chromagraph Camera, an iPhone photography app that applies image-processing techniques he associates with his films such as “Knives Out.” The app is designed to make iPhone photos look as though they have gone through the same kind of color and texture treatment used for his movie visuals.
Multiple outlets report that Johnson worked on the app with longtime collaborators, including cinematographer Steve Yedlin and programmer Eric Cameron. MacRumors says the app has attracted rapid attention online, contributing to strong paid App Store performance in the United States. Mashable and 9to5Mac describe the core idea as bringing “Knives Out”-style grading to iPhone stills.
Outlets also describe how the effect works and what users can control. MacRumors reports that the app shoots RAW photos and applies the look after capturing, while preserving the original RAW files for later changes. It also outlines export options such as JPEG and HEIC, plus an automatic export setting, and notes pricing and iOS requirements.
