Apple is rolling out a new firmware update for the AirPods Max 2, according to multiple outlets. MacRumors reports the update is firmware version 8E258, following the prior 8E251 release that came shortly before the AirPods Max 2 launched. The specific changes included in the update are not publicly detailed by Apple beyond general guidance that AirPods firmware updates typically focus on bug fixes and improvements.
Apple’s AirPods Max 2 use the H2 chip, and the devices include features such as Live Translation, Adaptive Audio, Loud Sound Reduction, and Voice Isolation. The firmware update process requires the headphones to be connected to an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, or Mac) via Bluetooth while the Apple device is on Wi‑Fi. The AirPods Max 2 also need to be connected to power using a USB‑C cable. Apple guidance cited by MacRumors says to keep the AirPods Max within Bluetooth range and wait at least 30 minutes for installation, then reconnect afterward and verify the firmware version.
