Australia’s workplace tribunal, the Fair Work Commission, says it is dealing with a growing number of disputes filed with the help of generative AI tools. Multiple reports say the Commission has started reviewing its processes to manage an estimated surge in workload over the past three years. Bloomberg Technology and Business Insider both attribute much of the increase to the wider availability of AI assistance for preparing or lodging claims, citing an estimated 70% workload increase during the period. The Next Web similarly reports that the Commission links the rise in AI-assisted claims to the increased case volume.
The Commission handles a range of employment-related matters, including unfair dismissal claims, wage disputes, discrimination, bullying, and workplace sexual harassment. In response to the increased demand, the Commission says it is examining how it processes filings and case management steps to cope with the higher workload. The reports do not indicate any specific change yet, but they describe the review as an effort to adjust administrative and procedural approaches as AI-related filing patterns evolve.
