A professor at a private university in Daejeon is disciplined and barred from teaching after alleged sexually inappropriate remarks made during class, according to multiple reports. The university says its foundation finalized disciplinary measures against the professor, identified only by the surname B, on Friday. The actions remove him from all teaching duties, student academic counselling, and other student guidance functions.
The controversy began in November, when a post criticizing the professor’s classroom comments appeared on the university’s online community forum. Students later conducted their own survey and submitted a formal complaint in December. Students reported the professor made statements suggesting that “8 in 10 women in Korea have probably earned spending money through prostitution,” and also allegedly made other remarks that could violate students’ rights.
The university also orders the professor to complete anti-recurrence training through its human rights center to help prevent similar incidents. The reports describe the disciplinary steps as part of efforts to address the complaint and reinforce appropriate conduct in the classroom.
