Square Enix says it is investigating a problem after a recent Steam patch for NieR: Automata inflates the game’s required PC file size from about 50GB to 366GB. Several outlets report the patch is not optional and was released alongside added language support.

The update is described as adding Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese to the Steam version. GameSpot reports the bloating appears tied to DLC handling, alleging the patch incorrectly assigns more than 40GB per DLC component, which pushes the overall size dramatically. GameSpot also says a temporary workaround is to unselect the affected DLC in Steam’s Properties menu.

Across coverage, Square Enix’s stance is consistent: it acknowledges the issue, apologizes for the inconvenience, and says it is working on a fix. IGN and Eurogamer both focus on the accidental file-size jump tied to the same multilingual update, while emphasizing that the update’s impact creates practical download or storage burdens for players.
