Microsoft is ending its “Gaming Copilot” AI initiative for Xbox consoles and is winding down Copilot on mobile, according to multiple reports. Newly appointed Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announces on X that the company will stop developing Copilot on console and will begin retiring Copilot features in the Xbox mobile app. The change reverses earlier plans that positioned the assistant as coming to current-generation Xbox consoles. Sharma says the shift follows a broader reorganization of the Xbox platform team, including executives from Microsoft’s CoreAI team, where she previously worked. In her post, Sharma says Xbox needs to move faster, deepen its connection with the community, and address friction for players and developers. She adds that Xbox will retire features that do not align with where the platform is headed. Reporting also notes that Sharma has taken additional steps since February, including scrapping Microsoft Gaming branding and cutting the price of Xbox Game Pass. Several outlets describe Copilot as an AI gaming sidekick intended to provide real-time guidance or advice in games such as Minecraft, and note that the service was still in beta at the time of cancellation.
