India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh says India has signed a deal to supply Vietnam with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Singh confirms the Vietnam agreement has been completed, while he also says a similar deal with Indonesia is in the final stages. Several outlets report that Vietnam is expected to become the third Southeast Asian buyer of the Indo-Russian BrahMos system after the Philippines and Indonesia. The Philippines is described as the first foreign customer, with a contract signed in 2022.
Reporting also notes that the Indonesia procurement agreement is tied to statements made earlier, including Indonesia’s announcement in March that it had entered into an arrangement with India to buy BrahMos missiles. One outlet further says the Vietnam deal is reportedly valued at about Rs 5,800 crore, while Singh did not provide additional deal specifics in his remarks. Multiple sources present Singh’s comments as part of India’s broader defence outreach to ASEAN countries, emphasizing engagement and technology sharing, without disclosing further terms of the contracts.
