Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee condemns an assault on her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, saying “rulers became killers” and attributing responsibility to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The incident is reported to have taken place in Sonarpur while Abhishek Banerjee was visiting the family of a slain TMC worker. According to accounts from TMC side outlets, he is said to have been thrashed by a mob. Banerjee publicly links the attack to BJP involvement, framing it as part of political violence. BJP’s response is also cited: it denies any involvement in the assault, according to NDTV. The dispute therefore centres on competing claims of responsibility, with Banerjee accusing the ruling party and BJP rejecting those allegations. The incident continues to draw political backlash and demands for accountability as both sides trade accusations over who is behind the attack.
