Apple is reportedly already working on iOS 28 and macOS 28, with next year’s releases expected to be more substantial than the iOS 27 update due to arrive in the near term. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says iOS 28 will be “far more significant” than iOS 27, though no specific features or changes are detailed in the reports. Gurman also indicates iOS 28 carries the codename “Bell,” while macOS 28 is codenamed “Poppy.”
The timing also ties into Apple’s upcoming hardware plans. iOS 28 is described as the first version for a rumored iPhone tied to Apple’s 20th anniversary, expected to be released in September next year. Separately, iOS 27 is portrayed as more focused on Siri and Apple Intelligence, including a more personalized Siri experience that uses user context. Expected elements for iOS 27 include a dedicated Siri app for back-and-forth interactions and additional Siri-related capabilities such as “Search or Ask” connected to the Dynamic Island.
Apple is expected to unveil iOS 28 at WWDC 2027 in June.
