India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increase 3.2% year-on-year to over ₹1.94 lakh crore in May, according to government data reported by multiple outlets. While one account notes that domestic revenue shows a slight dip, the overall rise is supported by stronger collections linked to imports and improved supplies of goods and services.
Business Standard provides a breakdown for the month: gross GST collections total about ₹1.94 lakh crore, with Central GST (CGST) from domestic transactions at ₹37,397 crore and State GST (SGST) at ₹45,143 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) during the month is reported at ₹51,990 crore. It also cites growth in taxable supplies, with goods taxable supplies rising 26.9% and services taxable supplies increasing 22.2%, indicating continued domestic demand.
The reporting also highlights that IGST collections from imports rise by 19.1% in May to around ₹59,654 crore. GST refunds increase to ₹27,281 crore, and after accounting for refunds, net GST revenues rise about 3.3% to approximately ₹1.67 lakh crore. NDTV and Times of India similarly attribute the rise to goods and services supply, with Times of India adding that some states see stronger SGST growth while Delhi’s SGST collection declines.
