India’s seafood exports reach a record high in fiscal year 2025-26, according to figures cited by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA). Exports total 19,72,018 metric tonnes with a value of Rs 73,890.46 crore (about USD 8.46 billion), as reported by Business Standard and The Hindu, referencing MPEDA data. The Business Standard reports that the result comes despite global headwinds affecting international trade, including inflation, supply disruptions, and weak demand.
MPEDA data also show that the United States and China remain the top importers of Indian seafood during the fiscal year. Frozen shrimp leads the export basket in both volume and earnings. Frozen shrimp accounts for 40.19% of the total quantity exported and 66.52% of total dollar earnings from seafood exports. In FY26, India exports 7,92,647 metric tonnes of frozen shrimp. The Business Standard states that shrimp exports grow by 13.16% in rupee terms. Separate coverage from The Economic Times highlights that India’s seafood exports have increased by about 70% over the past decade, placing the FY26 record within a longer-term growth trend.
