Charli XCX announces her seventh studio album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” set for release on July 24. Multiple outlets report that the singer previews the album by sharing its cover art, which features black-and-white imagery of three figures: filmmaker Martin Scorsese, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, and musician John Cale (of the Velvet Underground). The album announcement follows the momentum of her recent “Brat” era and related releases, including acting work and other music projects cited by some outlets. Variety, Rolling Stone, and The Hollywood Reporter describe Scorsese, Jacobs, and Cale as appearing on the cover to represent the album’s themes. Billboard adds that the album includes recent singles “Rock Music” and “SS26.” The announcement is presented as a continuation of her rock-oriented direction, with Stereogum noting she had previously discussed preparing a follow-up to “Brat” ahead of the formal release date confirmation. Overall, sources agree on the title, July 24 release date, and the cover’s featured names, with Billboard specifically tying the track listing to “Rock Music” and “SS26.”

2 months agoIt was only a matter of when. In the long tail of her big Brat moment from two summers ago, Charli XCX has been on a prolific tear, taking on a slew of acting roles last year (including her own mockumentary, The Moment) and releasing a full soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights in February. So it was surprising when she revealed in an April cover story for British Vogue that she's prepping a new rock-oriented album, the proper follow-up to Brat. Now that album has been officially announced, and its noteworthy cover art has been revealed.
