Kim Aris, the son of Myanmar’s deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi, asks France for assistance in locating independently verified proof that she is alive and where she is being held. His request comes after Myanmar’s military-run leadership orders Suu Kyi’s transfer from house arrest, a move announced by junta chief-turned-president Min Aung Hlaing. Suu Kyi has been detained since the military coup that began in 2021, and the reports say the move occurs about five years after her detention began.
Aris says he has not received information directly from his mother and is seeking confirmation through channels that can provide verification rather than relying on unconfirmed statements. According to lawyers quoted by one outlet, the effort is aimed at obtaining credible evidence of Suu Kyi’s condition and location.
Separate reporting also says France and the Philippines plan to mount international pressure on Myanmar to allow greater access and verification regarding Suu Kyi’s status, as international observers continue to call for transparency over her detention.
