The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has moved the Delhi High Court seeking an independent inquiry into alleged irregularities in the CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for Class 12 evaluation. NSUI’s petition highlights complaints from students about issues with scanned answer sheets, including alleged handwriting mismatches, blurred scans, missing pages, incomplete uploads, and unexpectedly low marks after results were declared. The petition also requests that the court order manual rechecking and physical verification of answer sheets in disputed cases and, in earlier filings, sought reopening of a verification/revaluation portal for a limited period.
The Delhi High Court issues notices to the Centre and CBSE, asking for their responses. CBSE and the government are expected to explain the measures taken to address student grievances, including extension of deadlines for portal closures. CBSE also objects to the petition’s maintainability on the ground that NSUI is a political student wing, while NSUI argues it is raising issues on behalf of minors.
During proceedings reported by some outlets, the court did not immediately order portal reopening and deferred related directions to a later roster hearing, citing concerns about the impact on a large number of students and potential delays to admissions.
