Comedian and actor Jack Whitehall reacts to Becky Hill’s new song, which draws on a previous exchange involving the pair at last year’s Brit Awards. Hill had criticized Whitehall after he used the phrase “Wetherspoons Whitney” when presenting, which she interpreted as a jab tied to class and her Midlands accent. In an earlier Instagram post, she responded with remarks about the “silver spoon” in his “mouth.” Later, Hill posted again, saying she and her “working class attitude” were going to work, describing Whitehall as “fuel to my fire.”
At a London preview at the 100 Club, Hill introduced the track by saying she “affectionately” calls it “Wetherspoons Whitney,” but that listeners would know it as “Daddy’s Range Rover,” adding “This one’s for you, Jack.” The lyrics reference Whitehall’s showbiz connections and judging her accent.
In interviews around the premiere of his film “Virginia Woolf’s Night And Day,” Whitehall tells the Press Association he feels “absolutely honoured” to have inspired the diss track, but also says there is “no beef.” He says he was laughing with Hill at an F1 event. Hill is preparing to release her third album, “Rebecca,” later this year.
