A Venezuelan man, identified as 31-year-old Jose Armando Alsena Coll, is charged with the murder of miner Rodwell La Cruz, also known as “Kabaloo,” in Guyana’s Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni). According to reports, La Cruz was fatally beaten—described as being chopped to death—during an attack at a mining camp in the Siparuni River area in March, about three months before the charge. The incident is linked to an allegation that La Cruz had stolen gold at the Iwokrama Protected Area.
Alsena Coll, a welder from Sheriff Street, Georgetown, was arrested on May 28, 2026, and later charged with the offence. Guyana Chronicle reports that he is remanded to prison after appearing before a senior magistrate in connection with the murder charge.
The cases are ongoing, and the reports describe the charges and court process but do not establish findings of guilt.
