Kuwait and Bahrain report that Iran launches missile and drone attacks targeting both countries, as regional tensions rise amid a wider Iran–US exchange of strikes. Kuwait’s foreign ministry condemns what it calls Iran’s “brazen assault,” saying it endangers the lives of citizens and residents and escalates insecurity in the region. Kuwait’s authorities state that Iran’s attacks hit Kuwait International Airport and diplomatic missions, with at least one person killed and dozens injured, and that air defences intercept incoming missiles and drones. Bahrain says its military intercepts three missiles and several drones and issues public alerts as incoming threats target civilian infrastructure.
Iran’s statements describe the attacks as retaliation for US strikes, and the IRGC claims it targets American facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, including US bases and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. US Central Command says several Iranian missiles and drones are intercepted or fail to reach intended targets, rejects Iranian claims of damage to the Fifth Fleet headquarters, and reports no injuries to US personnel. Satellite imagery cited in one report appears to show damage at a US air base in Kuwait, raising questions that Kuwait and Bahrain’s officials and Iran and the US dispute.
