A fire at a bed-and-breakfast/hotel in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar kills at least 21 people, according to police and multiple reports, in one of the deadliest such incidents in the capital in recent years. The blaze at “Flourish Stay” breaks out in the morning and spreads through the property in a congested neighborhood where students and young professionals live. Authorities say more than 40 people are rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, with dozens also injured.

Several sources report that foreign nationals are among the dead and injured. India’s Ministry of External Affairs says 13 foreigners are among the fatalities and that it is in touch with embassies, while other reports cite roughly 18–22 foreign nationals injured.

Reports also point to safety and compliance concerns. The building is described as having been licensed for fewer rooms than it allegedly operated with, and investigators cite missing fire-safety elements and fire-clearance issues. While officials examine the cause of the fire and conduct building-compliance checks, some reporting highlights disputes or shifting responsibility among agencies. Emergency services use multiple fire engines to control the blaze.
