France has imposed two new fines on fast-fashion retailer Shein totalling more than €22 million (about US$25 million), according to multiple reports. The penalties are issued by France’s Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF). Authorities cite breaches connected to consumer rules, including problems with product traceability information and environmental labelling, as well as failures involving returns and order-related information such as order confirmations and delivery times. The action follows an investigation that reviewed several e-commerce platforms, including those operated from outside France.

Shein disputes the charges, describing the fines as disproportionate, and says it will challenge the penalties. Reports also state that these new penalties add to an existing set of French fines against the company, bringing Shein’s total fines in France to more than €210 million. The company’s challenge and any subsequent legal or administrative process will determine whether the penalties are reduced or upheld.
