The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹9,585 crore scheme aimed at replacing older trucks and buses operating in the Delhi-NCR region. The plan is set to be implemented through the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB). Under the scheme, owners of commercial vehicles that meet BS-IV or older emission standards are eligible for incentives to upgrade to cleaner BS-VI-compliant vehicles or to switch to electric vehicles.
According to a government statement reported by NDTV, the programme is expected to cover around 2.07 lakh vehicle owners across Delhi-NCR, including 1.91 lakh trucks and 16,329 buses. The region includes Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Business Standard also states that the scheme is designed to encourage scrappage or replacement of older commercial vehicles and accelerate the move toward lower-emission transportation.
