India’s exports of refined petroleum products drop to about 930,000 barrels per day (bpd) in May, the lowest level since October 2022, according to data compiled by Kpler and reported by multiple outlets. The decline is attributed to a mix of refinery and market factors that reduce the volume available for overseas shipments while domestic demand remains firm. Sources say lower refinery throughput and planned maintenance constrain production and export readiness. In particular, maintenance at Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refining complex—India’s largest refinery and a major supplier of refined fuels for export—reduces crude processing rates and limits export availability. Beyond maintenance, outlets point to changes in production priorities and a greater “pivot” toward supplying the domestic market, which further curtails exports. Overall, exports in May fall to levels last seen in October 2022, when shipments averaged around 926,000 bpd.
