CAAP says it issued the deadline after concerns over unpaid fees and obligations, which it describes as the subject of ongoing discussions with the airline. The regulator also indicates that pursuing a negotiated settlement is intended to help avoid operational disruptions that could affect flights and related economic and employment impacts.
CAAP has previously raised the possibility of action against the airline, including a reported cease-and-desist order connected to unpaid airport charges and air navigation-related fees. According to CAAP, AirAsia Philippines faced about PHP 271.9 million in unpaid obligations as of May 20. In a later update, CAAP says AirAsia Philippines makes the payment on Thursday morning, helping avert a potential ban at government-run airports, while noting the settlement remains subject to standard reconciliation procedures.
