Universal’s first theme park and resort in the United Kingdom has been given an official name and receives major funding backing. The resort is called the “Universal United Kingdom Resort,” and it is described as one of the largest theme parks planned globally. Comcast NBCUniversal, through its role in Universal, plans to invest about £6 billion (roughly $8.1 billion) in the project, which the UK government characterizes as one of the largest investments in the country’s tourism sector.
Construction is set to begin in Bedfordshire soon, with completion targeted for 2031, according to UK government disclosures and industry reporting. The companies and government also outline expected visitor scale, including an aim to attract about 8.5 million visitors, reflecting the project’s intended long-term impact on tourism.
Reporting also says the UK government pledges significant infrastructure support to enable the development, framing the package as part of broader efforts to improve transport and related capacity around the site. Comcast’s leadership publicly describes the investment as a milestone for the company and a special moment for its UK expansion.
