Last week, Amazon gaming general manager Jeff Gattis rather put the cat amongst the pigeons when talking about James Bond's future in games now IO Interactive's 007 First Light is out. He was cited by Polygon as having said that, since they'll be happening post-Amazon's acquisition of the full Bond rights, any follow-up would be "done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios". When asked about Gattis' comments, Amazon were quick to declare that it's "still too early to discuss future projects". Now, Gattis himself has claimed that he never confirmed Amazon Game Studios would be publishing the next Bond game, while once again not setting in stone whether IO Interactive will be returning as its developers. Given the early success of 007 First Light, it's more than likely we will get more IO Interactive James Bond games in the future.. IOI has even suggested it would love to make a trilogy of James Bond games if it can - and given how First Light ends - no spoilers - there's room for it. However, if IOI does make more James Bond games, franchise owner Amazon has said it wants to be more involved. Read more

Amazon Gaming has confirmed that Amazon Game Studios will handle the publishing of any future 007 First Light sequels.

007 First Light, James Bond's freshly released spying sojourn to various exotic and dangerous locales, is a thoroughly enjoyable action romp. Naturally, the fact that was my verdict when reviewing it means I'm keen to see developers IO Interactive get a crack at doing a sequel, possibly after returning to their bread and butter with Hitman for a bit. However, whether they will or not looks to have been left a bit up in the air for now, with an Amazon Game Studios exec having confirmed that IO won't be self-publishing any Bond follow-ups. Read more
