Two men arrested after fatal stabbing and police pursuit in Whitney Pier, Cape Breton

Two men are in custody following a fatal stabbing in Whitney Pier and a subsequent police pursuit on the South Bar Highway, police say.

A stabbing investigation led to a police pursuit and the arrest of two men in Cape Breton on Wednesday afternoon. Cape Breton Regional Police were called to Frederick Street in Whitney Pier around 11:30 a.m., where they located a male with stab wounds. The male was transported by Emergency Health Services to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney for treatment of life-threatening injuries and later died. A suspect vehicle was seen leaving the scene, and officers followed it along New Waterford Highway in the South Bar area but terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety. Additional members of the street crime and community safety unit were called out to continue looking for the vehicle. With assistance from RCMP in Baddeck, Eskasoni, and Northeast Traffic Services, the vehicle was stopped on Highway 223 near Orangedale, Inverness County, around 1 p.m. Police arrested the two individuals inside the vehicle. The names of those arrested were not released to the public as of Wednesday afternoon. The Cape Breton Regional Police major crime unit is investigating the incident with assistance from forensic identification officers who are processing the scene on Frederick Street. Police say further details will be released when they become available.
