Cape Breton Regional Police investigate a fatal stabbing in Whitney Pier that leads to a pursuit and the arrest of two men. Police are called to Frederick Street in Whitney Pier shortly before noon, around 11:30 a.m., where officers find a man with stab wounds. Emergency Health Services transports him to Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney for treatment of life-threatening injuries, and he later dies.

Police say a suspect vehicle leaves the scene, prompting officers to follow it along New Waterford Highway toward the South Bar area. Officers terminate the pursuit in the interest of public safety. Additional units, including the street crime and community safety unit, continue searching for the vehicle.

With assistance from RCMP detachments in Baddeck and Eskasoni and Northeast Traffic Services, police stop the vehicle on Highway 223 near Orangedale in Inverness County around 1 p.m. Two men inside the vehicle are arrested. Their names are not released as of Wednesday afternoon.

The Cape Breton Regional Police major crime unit investigates, with forensic identification officers processing the scene on Frederick Street. Police indicate more details will be provided when available.
