Amazon expands its UK delivery and grocery offerings after shutting its standalone Amazon Fresh stores. The company says it is adding fresh groceries to its same-day delivery service in the UK, starting in parts of central and east London. Customers in those areas will be able to order items including fresh fruit and vegetables as well as meat, poultry, seafood, dairy, and bread.
In parallel, Amazon is broadening its ultra-fast delivery programme, Amazon Now. The service already delivers in less than 30 minutes in parts of London, and Amazon says it is extending coverage to Manchester and Birmingham. The company reports that deliveries in 30 minutes or less will be available in those cities “this year.”
The moves are framed by the company as part of its ongoing push into online grocery following the closure of its Fresh physical stores. Across the outlets, the key common elements are the fresh-grocery add-on to same-day delivery in London and the expansion of the ultra-fast service beyond London to Manchester and Birmingham.
