The British Heart Foundation (BHF) says it plans to close about 150 of its charity shops, citing an “exceptionally challenging trading environment” and rising costs. The decision follows a review of its retail estate in which the charity concluded that some stores are no longer financially sustainable.

Several reports state that closures will occur in phases. Around 90 shops are scheduled to close by the end of March next year. The remaining shops are expected to close later, with the process running until March 2028. Coverage also indicates the impact is expected to be spread across the UK, including Scotland, where one report says 69 shops are at risk.

While the exact number and timetable are presented slightly differently across outlets, all sources describe the same overall plan: a reduction of roughly 150 charity shop locations over the next two years, linked to the charity’s assessment of trading conditions and financial viability.
