Police and hunters in Fukushima, north-east Japan, are searching for a bear that attacked four people and has not been captured. Authorities say the animal escaped during the response by unlatched and opened a window from the inside. Reports from multiple outlets describe the bear as behaving in a way that suggests it can operate household features: it is filmed turning on a water tap and drinking, and it shows little apparent reaction after being struck by a tranquilliser dart.
According to CCTV footage cited by outlets, the bear chases and mauls an employee in a company car park. A passerby drives their car at the bear to push it away. The bear then runs into an office building where it injures another man before it leaves the area again. The bear is described as about one metre long. Police have not reported updates on its exact location or whether tranquilliser attempts or other measures have resulted in injuries beyond the four confirmed victims.
