A reboot of Paramount and Miramax’s horror parody franchise, “Scary Movie,” is drawing strong early turnout ahead of its weekend release. Variety reports the film has earned $7.7 million in previews, while Deadline places the figure at about $7.5 million, with previews beginning at 2 p.m. Both outlets describe the performance as near “Scream 7” preview levels. Paramount is projecting an approximate $40 million opening for “Scary Movie,” according to Variety.
In parallel, Amazon MGM Studios’ “Masters of the Universe,” produced for an estimated $170 million and based on the Mattel property, is also posting early results. Variety says it has made $4.4 million in previews, while Deadline estimates around $4 million.
