The United Nations is increasing its funding appeal for Lebanon as the humanitarian situation worsens amid ongoing strikes and fighting linked to the Israel–Hezbollah conflict. UN News and Deutsche Welle report that the UN is seeking an additional $331.5 million, bringing the overall appeal to nearly $640 million. The appeal targets about 1.4 million people facing crisis conditions, with UN humanitarian agencies describing needs as growing since violence erupted roughly three months earlier.
Al Jazeera and Al-Monitor likewise say the UN needs nearly $640 million to support Lebanon over the next six months, describing the crisis as severe and deteriorating. The Hindu similarly warns of a looming “humanitarian catastrophe,” noting that roughly a quarter of Lebanon’s population requires assistance. Free Malaysia Today adds that the UN had earlier launched a lower appeal in March (about $308 million) to support an emergency response through late May.
Meanwhile, Deutsche Welle reports fresh Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, reflecting the continued security pressures that drive displacement and disruption of essential services.
