Blackstone-backed data centre operator AirTrunk says it will invest about $30 billion in India to meet rising demand for cloud services and AI-related infrastructure. Multiple reports state the company announced the plan after having little or no operating presence in India until recently. AirTrunk’s investment target runs to 2030, with the company aiming to build and expand digital infrastructure capacity totaling more than 5 gigawatts across several Indian states and union territories. The initiatives are positioned as part of a broader push to support India’s growing data needs as cloud platforms and AI workloads expand. Bloomberg characterizes the move as a response to expanding AI and cloud markets, while The Next Web reports the company is also seeking to establish a larger footprint by developing hyperscale data centre capacity in multiple locations. The announcements do not specify all site selections or timelines for each individual project, but they outline the overall scale of planned capacity and total investment. AirTrunk is backed by Blackstone Inc.
