The National Investigation Agency (NIA) takes former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Saokat Molla into custody in connection with the Bhangar bomb blast case. Multiple reports say the NIA had previously declared him an absconder after he allegedly evaded arrest, and it coordinated searches while sharing information with border units such as the BSF. According to the outlets, NIA teams conduct searches and verification exercises, with indications that Molla may be staying at a relative’s residence.
Mint reports that Molla was arrested after sustained search operations in South 24 Parganas district, where the agency located him. Times of India says the arrest occurs from a hideout off south Kolkata after he had been on the run for about 48 hours, and that his son had been arrested earlier.
The NIA describes Molla as a key conspirator and alleges he played a central role in the blast, while details of the investigation continue through further custody proceedings.
