Beijing-based AI startup Moonshot AI is in talks for a new financing round that could value the company at up to $30 billion, according to multiple reports. Bloomberg says Moonshot AI is seeking as much as $2 billion, which would represent a major step up from prior valuations. The South China Morning Post reports the company is aiming to raise between US$1 billion and US$2 billion, and that the valuation target could be about 50% higher than its most recent round, which valued it at US$20 billion. The funding effort is described as the third financing round in about six months, reflecting China’s intensifying competition among AI developers. Tech outlets also note that Moonshot AI’s rapid valuation growth has occurred alongside other complications, including a legal dispute involving some investors, though those details are not the primary focus of the funding announcements. Moonshot AI is known for developing the Kimi chatbot, and the reports frame the current discussions as part of an effort to keep pace with rival AI labs and startups in China’s fast-moving generative AI sector.
