The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will honor Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg at its 60th edition, taking place July 3–11 in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. Multiple outlets report that the festival will present its President’s Award to the pair in recognition of their contributions as actors, directors, and screenwriters. The festival describes them as “two distinctive personalities” who have helped shape contemporary world cinema, citing a shared “trans-Atlantic” sensitivity reflected in their work.
Deadline reports that Gyllenhaal will receive the award during the festival’s opening ceremony. As part of the celebrations, the festival will also screen her film “The Bride!” Earlier in the festival, her recognition is positioned as a centerpiece for the opening events.
The outlets also state that Eisenberg will receive his President’s Award later in the festival, with the honor extending across the festival’s run rather than being limited to the opening day. Karlovy Vary’s artistic director Karel Och is quoted describing the pair’s impact and the qualities attributed to their filmmaking and performances.
